Hurricane Ike

We didn't loose trees nor have any major structural problems. Ours was just a cleanup effort as you will see in the subsequent pictures. We had Bryce, Rachel & Elias....Heidi, Adam & Jonah along with Becky, Wes and I here in the house. It was warm during the night as the power went off around 10:30pm. We turned the generator on around 8am and the lights finally came on around 2:30pm. The cable (with internet connectivity) was restored around 4:30pm.

The electricity was dicey for about the first 3 hours but seems to be okay now. Most of Houston still is without power as they estimate about 4 million households are powerless tonight. We were lucky since our county (Ft. Bend) was minimally hit by the hurricane so they had the first maintenance crews out who worked to restore power and facilities to Sugar Land and the surrounding communities.

We are all well and held up through the night. It was apparent that the winds were very heavy as they woke us all up most every hour.

Hurricane Ike

Even after the lights came on we left the extension cords in place since the power was flickering off and on. We had the fridge in the kitchen along with a TV, and some lights. In the garage we had the freezer going to keep things cold.

Hurricane Ike

You can see that the wind has pulled the shutters off the house and bent the shutter itself.

The cars were all lined up in the drive way since the street since the street floods when the rain is heavy.

Hurricane Ike

The pool was pretty full of leaves and debris from the winds and rain.

Hurricane Ike

There was alot of wind and rain but no major damage in Sugar Land. Most of the major damage was in Galveston and Houston. We were without power for about 12 hours having used our generator for about 7 hours to keep the fidge and freezer powered. We did have the TV plugged in and got limited cable so that we could see how things were progressing around the area.

We got power first, then cable (with internet connectivity) about 4 hours later. It was quite an adventure as we didn't know what to expect. All in all we were quite blessed.

Inside Buckingham Palace

Tower Bridge

The bridge which everyone mistakes as London Bridge. I took the picture from London Bridge which is a non-descript bridge that is parallel to the more famous partner.

Big Ben

I had a meeting in London and took one of the double decker buses to see the sights.
